Features.

Every Maxlight system shares the same approach to the detail layer that sits below the headline product. The same finish range, the same glass options, the same locking architecture, the same engineering approach to bespoke architectural glazing. This page is the index — pick a system from the four-system catalogue, and the detail layer described here applies regardless of which one you specify.

The point of consolidating these features in one place is twofold. For the homeowner browsing the site, it makes the choice between systems clearer — the system page tells you what changes, this page tells you what stays the same. For the architect specifying a project, it makes the writeup quicker — the same finish, glass, locking and detailing language applies across the whole Maxlight specification rather than being repeated separately on every product datasheet.

Finish range across every system

Any colour.

The Maxlight finish range is the full RAL palette in powder-coat, plus an anodised range for projects whose architectural register calls for the metallic reading rather than the painted reading. Three RAL colours are held in stock for fastest lead time: RAL 7016 (anthracite grey), RAL 7021 (black grey), and RAL 9005 (satin black). The full RAL palette is available to order; bespoke colours outside the RAL standard are available with a slightly extended lead time and a sample-approval round.

Dual-colour finishes — different colour inside and outside — are available on every system. Most projects keep both sides matching; dual-colour is most often specified where an exterior masonry colour wants a different interior accent, or where a black exterior pairs with a softer interior reading.

  • RAL 7016 — anthracite grey, in stock
  • RAL 7021 — black grey, in stock
  • RAL 9005 — satin black, in stock
  • Full RAL palette — to order
  • Bespoke colours — to order, sample-approval round
  • Anodised — bronze, dark bronze, black, natural; metallic register
  • Dual-colour — different inside and outside, every system

Glazing build-ups for thermal, acoustic and architectural performance

Any type of glass.

Standard glazing on every Maxlight system is a 28 mm double-glazed IGU with argon gas fill, low-emissivity coating, and warm-edge spacer bar. The whole-window U-value at this build-up meets Approved Document L 2025 limiting U-values for replacement and new-build dwellings.

For Future Homes Standard and Passivhaus targets, triple-glazed argon-filled IGUs at 44 mm build-up replace the standard double-glazed unit. The frame and the threshold detail accommodate the additional glass thickness without changing the visible aluminium signature.

Specialist glass options — Soft Coat low-iron for the cleanest visual reading; obscure or sandblasted for privacy; solar-control coatings for south-facing rooflights; laminated for security-rated builds and walk-on rooflights; industrial-effect glass for the wired-glazing reference where the brief calls for it — are available across the system catalogue.

  • Double-glazed argon-filled — 28 mm IGU, standard
  • Triple-glazed argon-filled — 44 mm IGU, Future Homes Standard / Passivhaus
  • Soft Coat low-iron — clearest visual reading, no green-tint
  • Obscure / sandblasted — privacy or design reading
  • Solar-control coating — manages summer heat gain on south elevations
  • Laminated — security upgrades, walk-on rooflights, balustrades
  • Industrial-effect — wired-glazing reference for steel-look register

Bespoke beyond the four standard systems

Architectural glazing solutions.

Beyond the four headline systems, Maxlight engineers and fabricates a range of bespoke architectural glazing solutions for projects where a standard product is not the right answer. Walk-on glass floors and rooflights for terraces, courtyards and basement light-wells. Glass staircases — treads, balustrades, and the structural connection back to the building. Glass roofs and structural glass canopies. Glass balustrades for stairs, balconies and roof terraces.

Each of these is engineered against the load case in-house. The fabrication runs in the same factory as the standard catalogue; the install is by our own crew. Lead times are longer than the standard catalogue because the engineering is per-project rather than from a parts-bin.

Flat rooflights — the high-performance Maxlight specification — sit in this category for projects that want the rooflight as part of the architectural glazing rather than as a sub-component of a standard ceiling. The rooflights page covers the specification in detail.

  • Walk-on glass floors — terraces, courtyards, basement light-wells
  • Walk-on rooflights — slip-resistant top layer, structural laminated build
  • Glass staircases — treads, balustrades, structural connection
  • Glass roofs and canopies — structural glass overhead
  • Glass balustrades — stairs, balconies, roof terraces
  • Flat rooflights — high-performance Maxlight specification
  • Pivot doors as architectural moments — S-Max for slim, F-Max for entry-grade

Mechanism, cylinder and certification by system

Locking and security.

Maxlight locking architecture matches the use-case of each system. F-Max pivot doors and entry-grade configurations carry a multi-point lock tested to BS EN 12209 with a BSI Kitemarked 6-pin cylinder — the insurance-recognised specification for residential entrance doors. Sliding doors run a 3-point side lock as standard, with the same BSI Kitemarked cylinder.

PAS 24 enhanced security — referenced by Approved Document Q for new dwellings — is available across the door range as an upgrade. PAS 24 adds laminated glazing and hardened locking hardware tested against attack-resistance methods that exceed the BS EN 12209 baseline. Specify at design stage; the visible aluminium does not change.

S-Max pivot is the exception in the door catalogue: locking is from inside only. S-Max is therefore specified for courtyards, internal pivots and oversized garden doors rather than for street-facing front entrances; F-Max is the entry-grade specification.

  • 5-lever bottom lock with mortice deadlock — sliding doors
  • 3-point side lock with BSI Kitemarked 6-pin cylinder — sliding doors
  • Multi-point lock to BS EN 12209 — F-Max pivot, entry-grade configurations
  • BSI Kitemarked cylinder — F-Max, sliding entry configurations
  • PAS 24 enhanced security — available across the range as an upgrade
  • S-Max pivot — inside-only locking, not for entry doors

Frequently asked questions

  • What colours are available for your products?

We offer the full RAL Classic colour range (216 colours), giving you complete flexibility to match your design vision. Whether you’re looking for bold contemporary tones or subtle architectural finishes, we can accommodate your requirements.

  • Do you offer anodised finishes?

Anodised finishes are available on request. Please speak to our team to discuss options and suitability for your project.

  • What locking options are available, and can they be colour matched?

Our doors are fitted with high-quality locking systems, including bottom locks (non-PAS 24) and PAS 24-rated side locks. While the lock barrels are not colour matched, the escutcheons (visible lock surrounds) can be finished to match your frame colour for a seamless look.

  • What security rating do your doors have?

Our systems can be configured with PAS 24-rated side locks, providing enhanced security for residential applications.

  • What security certification do you offer?

We offer systems that comply with PAS 24, a recognised UK standard for enhanced security performance.

  • Are your warranties transferable?

Our warranties are property-based rather than person-based, meaning they remain valid if ownership of the property change

  • Can I view your products in a showroom?

We offer a virtual showroom experience, which can be arranged through your sales contact.

  • Can I visit in person?

Yes, visits can be arranged by appointment at our showroom at 333A Western Avenue, London, W3 0BE

  • What are your typical lead times?

Our process is carefully structured to ensure precision and quality: - Survey Stage: Approximately 1 week to carry out a site survey, provided the site is fully prepared. We’ll supply clear guidelines in advance. - Design & Drawing Stage: Around 2 weeks (or up to 3 weeks for more complex projects such as glass boxes) from survey completion and receipt of all required technical details. - Manufacture & Installation: Approximately 8 weeks from final approval of drawings, with installation scheduled shortly after. Your project timeline will always be confirmed by your sales contact based on scope and complexity.

  • Do you offer bi-fold doors?

We specialise in premium glazing systems that prioritise longevity and performance. Bi-fold doors typically require more maintenance due to their multiple moving parts and top-hung weight distribution. For this reason, we focus on alternative systems that offer cleaner aesthetics, smoother operation, and reduced long-term maintenance.

  • Will you liaise with my architect or builder?

Absolutely. We regularly collaborate with architects, builders, and project teams to ensure your design is delivered exactly as intended.

  • What areas do you cover?

We operate across the whole of the United Kingdom.
